Terms of Use
The rules for using Quota.
In short. Quota helps you keep a group's books. It doesn't move money and isn't a bank: it records the expenses and payments you declare. The numbers depend on what you enter, so check them. Quota is currently free: there are no subscriptions or in-app purchases.
1. Who provides Quota
Quota is developed and provided by Giuseppe Ferrara (“we”). By using the app you accept these terms and the privacy policy. If you don't accept them, don't use Quota.
These terms are an agreement between you and us, not with Apple or Google. Apple is not responsible for Quota or its support, but it is a third-party beneficiary of these terms and may enforce them against you. The terms of the store you downloaded the app from (App Store or Google Play) also apply to your use of the app.
2. The service
Quota lets you create groups (recurring expenses, for example between roommates) and events (a trip, a dinner), record expenses, split them among participants, see who owes what to whom and record payments between members.
The service improves over time: features, limits and appearance may change. We'll do our best not to remove features you paid for during the period already paid.
3. Account
- You must be at least 14, or the minimum age set in your country for using online services if higher.
- You sign in with an email link, with Apple or with Google. You're responsible for what happens with your account: protect access to your email and your device.
- Your profile information must be yours and truthful. Your nickname must not impersonate other people or be offensive.
- You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Settings → Delete account. What happens to your data is explained in the privacy policy.
4. Your content
The expenses, descriptions, receipts and payment details you enter remain yours. You only grant us permission to store them, process them and show them to the other members of the groups where you enter them, for as long as needed to provide the service.
You're responsible for what you enter. In particular, if you add to a group someone without the app or give their email, make sure they agree. Don't upload illegal content or content you don't have the right to share.
Profile photo. You can upload one, optionally. It must show you, or in any case be an image you have the right to use: not a photo of another person without their consent, nor offensive, violent or sexually explicit images. Members of your groups and events can see it.
Other people's content. What other members write and upload (names, photos, expenses, receipts, messages) is their responsibility: we don't review it before it appears and we are not responsible for it. We don't tolerate offensive, violent, discriminatory, sexually explicit or unlawful content, nor users who harass others.
5. Money, balances and payments
- Quota doesn't make payments, doesn't hold money and isn't a payment institution. The buttons that open Satispay, PayPal, Revolut or other apps take you to third-party services, with their own terms.
- A payment recorded in Quota is a statement between members. With people who have the app, the balance changes when the recipient confirms. With people who don't, it changes immediately, and whoever recorded it can undo it.
- Balances are calculated from the expenses entered by members and simplified to reduce the number of payments. They aren't accounting or tax advice, and they aren't legal proof of a debt.
- Amounts are handled to the cent. When a figure doesn't divide exactly, the remaining cents are assigned so that the total adds up.
6. Price
Quota is currently free and offers no subscriptions or in-app purchases. If we introduce paid features in the future, we'll tell you in the app and update these terms before asking you to pay anything.
Quota Pro subscriptions sold in the past are no longer on sale and don't renew. Refunds follow Apple's or Google's rules: you can request them at reportaproblem.apple.com or support.google.com/googleplay.
7. Limits
There are currently no limits on the number of groups, events and recurring expenses, or on history. If we introduce any, we'll tell you in the app.
8. Receipt reading
Automatic reading of receipts and bills uses artificial intelligence models and can make mistakes: amounts, dates, items, merchant. The app always shows you the result before saving the expense: check it yourself. We're not responsible for expenses saved with wrong data you didn't verify.
9. Acceptable use
You may not use Quota for:
- illegal activities, fraud, money laundering or harassing other people;
- entering other people's data without their consent where it's required;
- trying to access data of groups you don't belong to, circumventing plan limits or security measures, overloading the service or scraping data from it automatically;
- publishing offensive, violent, sexually explicit or discriminatory content or photos, content inciting hatred or violating other people's rights, including someone's photo without their consent;
- copying, decompiling or reselling the app, except as permitted by law.
Reports. You can report a user or content from Profile → “Report a user or a problem”, with screenshots, or by writing to quotaapp@icloud.com. We usually review reports within 24 hours and, if they breach these terms, we remove the content and may suspend or close the account of whoever entered it.
10. Suspension and closure
We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly violates these terms, after warning you where possible. If we ever decide to shut down Quota, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice and a way to export your data.
11. Liability
We do our best to make Quota work well and keep the numbers correct, but the service is provided “as is”: there may be interruptions, errors or data loss. We recommend not using Quota as the only record of significant amounts.
To the extent permitted by law, we're not liable for indirect damages or for disputes between group members about who owes what. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for wilful misconduct or gross negligence, or the rights you have as a consumer under Italian consumer law and other mandatory rules.
12. Changes to the terms
We may update these terms. If the changes are important, we'll tell you in the app at least 15 days before they take effect. If you don't accept them you can stop using Quota and delete your account; by continuing to use it after that date you accept them.
13. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by Italian law. If you're a consumer, disputes fall under the courts of the place where you live, and the protections of your country of residence remain in force.
14. Contact
